Yes -- focusing on self instead of the collective they seek to use to appropriate yet more for self. That is the visible fracture -- those who demand individual identity recognition seek to absorb anyone who has a different sense of identity into the socialist Borg. They are ultimately STATISTS, calling for absolute government control to "protect" (and enforce) fractious tribal identity politics, destroying America and equality in the unequitable bargain....
First and foremost, thank you for inspiring me to get involved in this crazy mixed up world when it's so much easier to just sit and take it. Or is it? I for too long tolerated the crap I was seeing infect our society. Being a Christian man, raised to be self sufficient and responsible, I kept my nose out of others business until recently when I realized apathy is a culture cancer and since I wasn't involved and part of the solution, I was part of the problem Long story made short like you, I am reluctantly developing my public voice and living up to my responsibility as a citizen of this once great country.
And now, with my light grasp of the pens power, I am starting to feel a small tinge of hope that your writing, perhaps even some day mine will inspire others to get involved and over a short time we might develop a voice at least equal to the fringe that have stolen the limelight.
"apathy is a culture cancer" As in, "Evil triumphs when good men do nothing."
Welcome to the fray! We need all hands on deck, ally! I am still trying to improve my writing abilities, but Wendell Berry (and his writings) have inspired me to "find my own (regional) voice." Please feel strengthened and emboldened -- the darker it gets, the more brightly you will shine!
Hi John, I frequently learn through you, my openness to learn rooted in the belief of your common sense perspective but this piece wreaking of hyperbole. Do you not agree we should be looking at factory farms. Is that notion equivalent to eliminating cows? I think you may be hitting the partisan sauce a bit hard. It would be better to find places of agreement and build bridges, that to rant.
I agree, though I write both opinion pieces and "facts" pieces. This is a reprint from two years ago, and was written for a conservative platform. I take aim at factory farms and processed foods routinely. However, I also try to avoid dividing farmers who need to be united -- and so I push organic and regenerative more than I condemn industrial CAFOs. I am grateful for, and agree with, your constructive criticism. I never actually saw myself becoming a writer -- I'm still a work in progress (though not a progressive. :) I have vegan friends and believe everyone can eat what they want -- what gets me (unhelpfully?) hot is those who seek to tyrannize my diet and way of life. I am very fond of my cows and resent them being lumped in with CAFO animals. That is slanderous against both them and us farmers. :)
Love that you quoted G.K. Chesterton. He seems to be in a lot more places today than he ever was and yet his common sense and joy of life should be something everyone wants.
By the way, the biggest clients of the beef burger they purchase at McDonald's are the low income. Take away their meat and force them to go vegan would not set well for Demonrats as they are one of their dependable voting blocks.
The main reason the leftist and progressives are pushing this agenda so hard is to keep their own buttons on the gravy train of big money!

Can you provide a place of agreement where those bridges might be built?
Local agriculture. I made this pitch in this recent article: https://www.frontporchrepublic.com/2024/02/in-defense-of-livestock/
Thanks John. I was asking Mark to answer that question. :)

Chesterton was and is an underappreciated genius. Brilliant thinker and writer. Unflinching Christian. Probably drank too much wine though..... :)
