Excellent piece! Unfortunately, with each succeeding generation at least in my lifetime, a greater percentage of Americans either have walled themselves off from God or don’t even know Him; consequently, they have no higher Power with whom to give gratitude for ALL of their blessings. Jesus said, “He (God) must increase; I must decrease.” When they took religion out of the public schools, the virtue of humility, especially before God, was sabotaged and narcissism filled the void. Pray for a return to a more religious society, more religious vocations, more politicians and other leaders to express their religion publicly and more parents to teach their religion to their children. Through these avenues and by the Grace of God, will our country achieve national unity.

When it comes to life the critical thing is whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude.

That Chesterton had a way with words.

Thank you for sharing the history of the holiday, I didn’t know its framing in regard to the Civil War, I think that is quite apropos.

May we surrender in humility and gratitude to the Creator from which all good flows.

Happy Thanksgiving!
