Wonderful. This is why the global elites are trying to destroy small farms. You aren't dependent on them.

Great story. My hope is that the communists like Bernie Sanders are not successful in destroying these small farms and the freedoms and liberties of the people in states like Vermont.

My mother was brought up this way in 1930's. They bartered goods and shopped in town rarely and this would cause great excitement, donning Sunday best attire and shopping. I should have married a farmer.

Just finished reading Jonathan Haidt's The Anxious Generation. He obviously was writing primarily for an urban family and not a family living off of their farm. Seems like we need more families who raise their kids doing chores and eating their hogs named Spotty. I always love hearing your story.

You may not realize this, but there are many lawyers who have left the corporate world and returned (in my case) to the farm. We grow most of what we eat, which is fairly common for farmers, I would imagine. Living in California where everything is over the top expensive, even container gardening for non-farmers could be an important step, not only for eating better but also for the sheer joy of watching things grow.
