I am grateful this Independence Day that our nation still fights for the fundamental liberties our forefathers secured for the world to see. This Substack is itself evidence that Americans still value free speech, as we all seek to find truth in a world of unethical journalism and untrustworthy government.
Farmers have long served as the backbone of this nation and its liberties. Farmers supplied our Revolutionary War forces in our divorce from the British, and are just as necessary today to liberate Americans from dependency on processed foods and government control.
Today’s America is surreal. Our borders, institutions, laws, and values are being systematically tarnished in a culture war grounded in contempt for America and its culture. Never has the Fourth of July been so meaningful: we must embrace and nurture the good of our nation with humility and gratitude.

I expect Montpelier, Vermont will host a Fourth of July parade today without any American flags — though perhaps a colorful display of pride, unicorns, and rainbows. Instead of celebrating sexual desires and fantasies today, I will be reflecting on things I took for granted as a child — the Pledge of Allegiance and My Country Tis of Thee in public school, celebrating the Bicentennial in 1976, experiencing a nation truly aspiring toward equality and freedom of speech, rather than totalitarian domination in the name of liberty of identity.
Let us reflect humbly on what our nation has been, and what it will become in the near future.
