I have been asked to sign this, and it’s a great letter, but I’m holding out because, IMHO, Sec. Kennedy should use his own power on the things he controls before he tries to extend his influence.

Do you have any thoughts on what might be preventing him from ending the nine current PREP Act declarations, including the one that gives blanket liability protections to Big Pharma for all the COVID countermeasures—and even absolves them for any deaths and injuries from seasonal flu vaccines? (There’s also a separate PREP Act declaration for flu.) In 2021, the U.S. death rate went up 5.3% from 2020 and people are still dying. Kennedy is now the one who’s preventing cases against the harmaceutical industry from going to court. Why?

I just want to see Kennedy use the statutory authority he has as HHS Secretary. If he can do that, then I’ll see the point of him speaking from whatever bully pulpit he has on other issues. The PREP Act should be his number one priority, but we’re also targeting him with alerts on the GRAS loophole he promised to fix. That’s a place where he has power over pesticides. The food additives law exempts insecticides sprayed post-harvest, but not other pesticides. So, we have alerts asking him to yank GRAS status for herbicide-tolerant and insecticide-producing GMOs, but he could go even further. All pre-harvest pesticide residues could be considered food additives under the law.
