We cut our mulch with our scythes and last it on thick….. we use leaves, rotted wood, barn goodies from the goats and chickens. It works well. Besides we keep up our muscle mass etc. important as we age….
Hardcore again! It's very challenging to do home gardens no till. We have used plastic, and lumber, and stall mats, and mulch. but the weeds (especially berry briars) always seem to find a way to flourish. Muscle mass is good.... :) I moved the equivalent of 200 bales today, plus I fed out a 500-pound round bale with a pulp hook (to roll it). Keeps me fit!
